DIY maintenance a benefit

Would that be in bridge design or washing machines- only our dishwasher is on the blink & if you are in the area!!!!

Just joking! but it always makes me laugh when i see the term "engineer"
Hope that you are not too offended:ambivalence:

I build railways which are the safest transport system on earth and kill perhaps no customers a year in the UK (trespassers are not so lucky) but I need to be licensed exhaustively to see if I wipe my arse in the right direction. I or my son could probably mend your washing machine as I am also hands on with lower technology as an amusement but I want £600 per day or a longterm contract. OK?

So it looks like the wife gets a new dishwasher - & the local scrappy gets some tot:ambivalence:

Almost up to plumber rates then! :encouragement:

I often wish I was a plumber, my normal employed rate is much less than my potential freelance rate. Freelance is hard to get and needs vast insurance cover as damaging a railway or causing crash could cost many millions and end up with me in front of Court of Enquiry. Plumbers also dont have to put up with so much bureaucracy or management bullshit either.

When I was your boss- what I actually said is:

An expert is:

Ex = has been
spert = drip under pressure

??? It's been a long time since I had a boss but I don't recall one called Norman. I was thinking of one called Trevor who had his own particular turn of phrase.

One downside of maintaining the same engine for years is that you may not notice subtle changes.

I was in Poole some years ago on the quay. I had a mechanic from over the road check out our Volvo. I think I'd just changed the thermostat. Anyway, he spent an hour, did the tappets, and pronounced all well. It was a very reasonable rate from what I remember. Well worth it every few years.
