couldn't find any info on ths site about ideas for a diy set of wheels. after mucking about in the garage with various bits of metal, my wife came up with an idea. why not use the crutches that have been lying around since breaking my ankle? excellent. all i had to do was cut to the right size, drill a hole for the wheel "axle" and attach some buggy wheels. the push in mechanism on the crutches allows for a quick release of the wheels. i can simply push and lock them back into the top when on the water. they will be attached to the transom using some circular type brackets. the wife even joked i could use the bit where you put your arms through as a fishing rod holder! glad to know my national insurance contributions are for a good cause. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif lol!

These seem to do the job from home to the beach. Tiltable to get through the gate.

Very interesting!
We have a Wetline 235 RIB, has anyone got a nice design for some wheeled contraption for a dinghy that hasn't got a flat bottom?

Look carefully at the pic and you will see that it would work fine with a non-flat bottom. And the wheels are up in the air when rowing giving much less resistance than if in the water. Not familiar with a Wetline RIB but I'd have thought the ribs we have hereabouts would be a bit heavy for this - you need to lift half the weight!

great idea geoff. couldn't get the brackets, so got a local guy to weld on a couple of rectangular pieces for bolting on to the transom. however, being aluminium, cost £20! ouch! but better than the £80-100 that you might have to spend on set of wheels.

Have a look in the current edition of PBO. A guy has a design that can have an outboard mounted and pull the boat up a beach. The wheels can also be lifted wheb in the water without removal
