I may be taking over a swinging mooring for the new season.

Can anyone suggest the name of someone who might be qualified to check over the chain? Preferably cheap - as ever. Thanks.

Years ago when I had a mooring at Saltash, the diving company who checked all the club moorings was called Diving Belle. Yes, she was the diver. Very helpful when I dropped the car keys in the drink!!

Don't know if they are still about. I haven't tried Mr Google.

HTH.

Doug748,

Wouldn't it be better to employ someone to lift the mooring, who can make repairs at the same time.

If the diver says you need work on the chain you will probably have to get it lifted anyway.

It depends where the mooring is but there are quite tight rules about who can check moorings in Plymouth. Probably best to talk to whoever you are taking the mooring over from. More info on exactly where the mooring is would help with advice from Plymouth owners on the Forum.

They are about and they have an excellent website here:

http://www.divingbelle.co.uk/

However, I only need a simple check for undue wear and replace mousing on shackles.

If the mooring is within the port authority we have always been told that it is supposed to be certified by one of the approved agents. Diving belle is one of the approved people.

The whole area is part of the Dockyard Port of Plymouth and therefore the regulations are the same up to Gunnislake Weir (defined by "as far as the tide flows"). The people you are renting the mooring from should be able to give advice, if not try QHM they are pretty friendly.
