I believe I've got something wrapped round one of my props despite rope cutters.
Are there any divers in the Lymington area that you can recommend or someone nearby who would travel?

A few years ago I got a plastic tarpaulin around both props , stopped the boat and eventually I fired up the engines and limped into port.

A diver took the tarp off and declared all perfect.

I later found out that on prop has de pitched blades after a considerable amount of money looking for a problem.

Divers in general are not engineers, divers in general do not intimately know your boat.

In may case looking at the props out of the water, inspecting the cutless bearings, inspecting the rope cutters carefully and turning the props by hand would have saved me a lot of money.

Modern diving regs, one down one on stand by and a dive master out of the water in control of the dive probably there is not a lot of difference in cost against a lift , hold in strops and inspection for an hour?

Lift and inspect would be my route.

I use them four times a year for a hull clean and its far cheaper than a lift out, hold, power wash and launch, at least what LYH charge

When did you do your comparison? LYH introduced lower lift and scrub charges last summer, so may be worth revisiting. I think I only paid £100 for a 34 footer.

Current price for a 34 footer at LYH is £127.50 but that only includes a 15min wash off. My boat is 53ft which takes over half an hour to wash off so would cost nearly £250 plus I would have to be there to take the boat round to the lift, so for me at least its cheaper in £'s and my time to use the divers. Agreed not for everyone though.

LYH were very very reasonable seeing as I wasted the lift in some respects as no rope was found unfortunately, not any sign of it. Got my second wash off in two months as a booby prize!.
