I have just (about) finished rewiring Phoenix from the ground up, and spent a fair amount of time contemplating using a Canbus system like the one described on the link... I reached the same conclusion as he has... that the complexity and risk outweighs the weight benefits considerably, and the 'nodes' are sufficiently expensive, that the cost savings are currently non existent... the only remaining benefit is therefore the opportunity to do clever things like have standard night or anchor settings across the whole boat... which would save, oh, lets say, 45 seconds a day!
I can understand manufacturers using multiplexing in new build boats, and don't have a problem with it at all. After all, our cars use canbus systems and are generally reliable.
