Thank you kind sir, trying to do some roughish fuel calculations whilst offshore, so as to justify (or not) the purchase of a 950 quid, 1000 litre bag tank. To fill with cheap fuel in Tunisia to take me to Corfu to allow me full tanks when I get bthere, also to see how much fuel I need to get there so as to maximise the cheap fuel fill up. Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Makes sense to buy it, 1000 euros to buy, fill with fuel at Tunisia, 300 euros.
In spain 1000 euros to fill. Saving 700. 1 1/2 trips paid for itself. Plus of course I arrive in Corfu with almost full tanks.

Surely if the tank is 950 £ and has a capacity of 1,000 litres, the only calculation you need to do is to confirm whether the fuel is £0.95 / litre cheaper in Tunisia than elsewhere?

May I attract the attention of the right honourable gentleman to the above post.

There were other considerations, as to whether its worth it to arrive with full tanks etc. so I dont need to buy fuel for a couple of years and can go back to Tunisia to re-fuel etc. Plus I will need at least one if I want to cross the atlantic .

Its a long way from "entering the med" to Tunisia.
Tunisia is basically below Sardinia/scicily/Malta.
But yes the fuel is cheap in Tunisia, €.30 a litre.

there was something in this months RYA magazine about diesel in auxiliary tanks and EU countries charging duty on it. Apparently some EU members will accept duty free diesel in the main tank whenn you come from an area where it isnt charged but not in an extra tank or containers.

Now, that is intersting!! I wonder what Malta and italy would say, although once in malta I'm in the eu. The tank would be mostly empty when I get to Corfu, or at least most will be in my main tanks, but have to look that up, somewhere, thanks for your input, hadnt even considered that.
