I've looked in the instruction manual but it's never been obvious to me whether you can get a record of distance covered each day without the paddle wheel log being in place? I don't bother with the paddle wheel as it constantly gets weeded up.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Evening LJS. What flavour of E series are you on - classic, widescreen or current? I have the current model, and on that one as CLB says it's the ground log that you're after (that's also what I use).

It's classic. I thought that I'd turned on the ground log (there appears to be 4) but without success. I've only had and used this bit of kit for about 8 years.......:ambivalence:

Do you have the latest software? There was a similar thread sine while back and the software needed updating from memory. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Edit: here it is

Yes that was mine and after I loaded the latest version of software it finally worked. But the radar stopped working. I phoned Raymarine and they said you must do a factory reset after uploading new software. You need to save your waypoints and routes or they will be lost. After the factory reset, everything worked fine including log and radar. The upgrade was easier than it sounds. All you need is a compact flash card and a reader which I got off the internet (not new).
PM me if you have any questions
