I believe that you have to show your registration number on each side of the vessel if you are on an Euro waterway, is this right? If so, are there any recommendations for size of lettering etc?
I know MBM went to Holland last year...............

i go to De Nederlands most years & havnt heard that one.
i have my ssr No under the helm seat its perfectly visable (if your below & looking aft out of the main hatch).
vat paid status is thier main concern & u should ( must) carry their part 1 almanac although its in Dutch.
the South Holland / Zeeland areas are far prettier than the North imho

One for Kim, then?

I tend to agree, I have my SSR number on the transom, but I am sure that on last years MBM cruise to Holland, they had additional signage? Perhaps KIm could reply?

Sorry but beg to differ on advice here...looked into this at some length.

The SSR or Part 1 numbers should be displayed at least 6in high each side IF the boat is capable of speeds greater than 10.8 knots and/or is greater than 20m LOA

The reason lies in the Dutch fast boat regs...it wasn't that long ago that you had to register faster/bigger boatrs in the Netherlands to legally visit. The Dutch only accepted SSR and Part 1 once they were given access to the owner details by the UK authorities.

The size stipulated for SSR numbers by UK are not acceptable by the Dutch. However they don't seem to mind temporary numbers in wheelhouse/windscreen windows. Numbers should be displayed both sides.

Just to brighten up your day don't forget that you also have to clear immigration in Belgium or Netherlands due to UK being non-signatories of Schengen -- used not to be an issue but now seems to be, even though we failed to track customs down last year in Netherlands and Nieuwpoort had run out of forms "months ago".
