The last three days its been blowing some here in Horta. Gusts and squalls here in the Anchorage up to 38kts.
Boats coming in from the Caribbean have been finding the last few days pretty challenging. Plenty of sail damage and now this morning we have two yachts in the anchorage with no mast. One is a Dehler 35. Belgium flag, 60 year old single hander. The other is a Neel 45 trimaran. Both pretty modern boats. The Belgium skipper sounded pretty traumatised on the vhf

Should of changed their rigging screws.....

On a more serious note, My oppo Colin always reckons that in a May transat you are gonna get two storms. I agree! That last blow has been forecast for a while but thats no help when you are out there. Seems plenty more behind them expending a lot of Diesel.

MAYS will be as busy as usual.

If the mast came down on my boat especially if I was on it at the time I think I would be fairly traumatised.

I believe there is a Vancouver 28 "Fathom" anchored in Horta at present. Got there from Antigua just before the weather turned about 9 days ago. Not allowed ashore but being supplied by Peter Cafe Sport aka Atlantic resistance movement.

Yep, Thom is anchored next to me? Peter cafe guys doing a fantastic job of keeping us all supplied
