Have you ever read a boat name to yourself and got it wrong?

I'm always doing it! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

In some fonts, boat names can look like something else...
for example.

Panache could like Pancake

MAGNUM like MYMUM

Ocean Tigress like Ocean Sickness

But my favourite, for which I was called a 'Git' /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

was on a dutch boat called 'Prick' looked like 'rickP' /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seen anymore?

I've not spotted any funny names (though im sure I will do). But I was testing SWMBO on her phonetic alphabet last week. She decided to spell out our boat name in case it was needed in an emergency. She went as follows:
TANGO. ALPHA. KILO. ECHO...........TANGO. HOTEL. ALPHA. TANGO.

Great if your into the 90`s boy band. But little use to us on a boat called Take Five.

I was pointing out something to SWMBO last year and I said "just inline with the boat named Mizzled" She looked and burst out laughing and said "it's misled, you twit". I've always got that wrong. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My missus would pronounce it,
" Romeo, Oscar, Bravo, Bravo, India, Echo" ! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Aye there is one here in the bay (Theoldyin) its a shetland strikeliner and owned by a chap of 90 who to his credit is out on her every day during the summer weather permiting.

My mate called his canoe "Mafeking", if asked why he always replied, "because it's makefing canoe, innit?"

It was a long time before the penny fell with me; & his Mum never understood (thank God!), although his Dad did.

A load of my fishing mates think that Pipedream should be re-named

'Ocean Coooont' Does that count???? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Did you spell 'dyslexia' incorrectly for effect?

If you google 'dislexia' and follow any reply, you'll come back to 'dyslexia'.

Wonder why? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You don't have to misread some of them

The one that always used to really annoy me was a little raggie called "Sea Essay".
I'm convinced it was owned by some evil scrote in the Chancellor Support Agency, and I always wondered whether (s)he called it that deliberately to wind people up.

I originally wanted to name our boat something poker related but the name would probably only be understood by other poker players.

Four-King Off (4 & King of different suits)
or
Jack-King Off (as above but with a Jack).
