Discounts for overwintering at Gouvia Marina?

Afternoon, all

We shall be arriving at Gouvia in the next week or so, weather and the gods allowing!

I have been in touch with Gouvia about prices and essentially for the 6 winter months they're asking for the monthly rate minus 6% for RYA membership. No further discount mentioned for signing up for the full 6 months or paying in advance?!?!

So, any of you who are In The Know, any idea how we may be able to shave a few more pennies off the price?

Also, I read on another website that they don't accept cards. Is this true? Are they cash only? This was going to be another bargaining point...

I did read this in their T&C's. Fortunately, the in-laws live in Corfu so we can stay with them for the 2 or 3 weeks we have the boat ashore. Though, I believe we'll be staying at theirs more than just the 2 or 3 weeks ashore. :p

It's true the whole group has or is being sold to a Turkish consortium, Camper and Nicholson are rumoured to be something to do with it. The other thing is, deals can/may be cut, go talk to the boss, (Dimitri) not the office staff, he's there in his own wee office.
 
Have heard that Levkas Marina are offering good deals this winter. You may like to try them or at least use Levkas Marina prices as a bargaining tool when negotiating with Gouvia Marina.

Owned by the same company, so doubt it would be useful playing one off against the other!
 
6% off for RYA or CA membership ... or just for asking, really. You save for an upfront payment and a fair bit if you book for a whole year. But nothing will persuade them to reduce beyond this. Beware there is a big surcharge if you stay on the hard for more than 3 months. You need to be really discreet if you stay on board ashore overnight, or maybe you could bribe the security guy who checks nightly.

More expensive than Preveza but its easier to get to from UK and the facilities are excellent.
 
Thanks for the tips, we shall speak to Dimitri when we get there in the next few days. Hopefully between upfront payment for 6 months, offering to pay cash, and a sweet, sweet smile, we may be able to get a few extra pennies knocked off. :D

Popped into the marina today to speak to them. Boat is tucked up in a small fishing harbour on the other side of the island until the weather perks up. Dimitri wasn't around, but I spoke with one of the girls. Standard deals are 6% off for RYA or other club membership, or 8% off for payment up front for the full 6 months. However, you can't have both discounts! But the girls weren't completely sure, so she was going to speak with Dimitri and call us back with the final tally. No difference between paying cash or card.
We shall see what they say when they call us back! (If they do...)

If you keep your head down and don't leave your ladder up you can get away with it. SOME however just seem to get away with it quite openly. I use the Hotel Pyrros just at the top of the road at the side of the new hospital. It offers B&B in large rooms for €23 a night and it is an easy walk to the boatyard end of the hard, although I use my bike, unlike the hotels in Kontokali village which are OK for the marina office but a fair hike from the laying up area. They often close over the winter period too and the noise of traffic in the street isn't condusive to a good night's sleep.

Just arrived in Gouvia and for our winter contract we got discounts of 6% for CA and 8% for payment up front. This is the same as last year.

Thanks for sharing! I asked whether we could have both the 6% and 8% and the girl in the office wasn't sure. She was going to ask Dimitri and get back to me. Still waiting for that call... ;)

So I popped along to the office today to sort all this out. The max they would discount was 10%. They refused to budge. I brought up that someone had been given both discounts and the woman said there was no chance, the max they do is 10% unless you're paying for a year's worth of berthing. She did go and speak with the others in the office, and that's the most they would do.
Couldn't be bothered to push it further, seeing as we'd decided we'd be happy with 10%, so all done now.

Though I would be interested to know how you got 14% off?

On another note - I have yet to visit a Port Police office since we arrived in Greece. There weren't any around the harbour where we first arrived and refuged from the weather for a few days, and now the Gouvia PP office has been closed every time I've popped by. Should I bother trying again or not worry about it as I have Gouvia paperwork?
