I'm not sure I understand the difference between "boaters" & "sailors".
Could it just be the complainant that the management don't like?

Not sure how the fishermen are treated but they were great at Easter, free mooring for a couple of hours whilst we waited for the tide, an hour alongside the quay to load up with water and stores from the shop and a helping hand to come alongside; Orford is very much back on our visiting list. Having Butley Creek and the pups and shop at Orford so near is a dream. The church is a well worth a visit, very peaceful and famous for hosting visiting sculptures.

My understanding has been that "yachtsmen" are discouraged from coming alongside the quay rather than given preferential treatment, perhaps their complaint relates to some other local matter such as the issue of mooring licences?

At busy times, mostly during the summer, yachts are not encouraged to come alongside at Orford Quay because it is heavily used by: the Lady Florence for her Brunch, Lunch, Dinner and Sunset Cocktail cruises; the RSPB launch taking folk to and from or around Havergate; the NT launch taking their folk across to Orfordness and back; plus occasional fishing boats bringing their catch ashore. There is always the Orford SC pontoon.
The politics of the NOTT are baffling even to local folk in the know; suffice to say they do not even come near pleasing all the people all the time...and maybe the sailing club folk have more say than the fishermen...

NOTT now even charge a fee for private moorings, THAT never ever used to happen. its empire building to pay for the new HM & his office, helper ( wife) & new launch

I agree with Lazy Kipper, a combination of the facilities at Orford Quay and the village, and the isolation/beauty of the Butley River was wonderful last year. We struggled to get any signal for ringing home/looking at wind guru, but apart from that a most idyllic area.
The fee for use of a private mooring was worth it IMO.

BUT it is a private mooring for which the holed pays a fee. Do NOTT offer that holder a discount due to them double charging just to pay for the HM ,staff ,a new launch & the office
