After 18 years on the water, the mahogany laminates in Tigger's saloon are rather discoloured close to the floor, where water occasionally gets to attack it. The discolouration is "only" up to about 30cm from the floor, but it is variable in height...

What do the panel suggest may be a neat, good-looking solution to this?

I would recommend bleaching the stain out. Liberon do a very good stain remover, but somepeople will use oxalic acid. Once completed you may need to add a light colour stain (water based Liberon wood stains are very easy to contol compared to a spirit stain) to blend the colours together. Then varnish to restore the cabin to like new. Just be careful not to sand too hard as veneers are very thin.

Sometimes an improvement can be made by driving any remaining moisture out with some heat. I have removed water stains from veneer using a hot iron placed over a tea towel or careful use of hot air gun. May not work but costs nothing to try. Then try the bleaching, probably a better option.
Otherwise you could cut back and re-veneer a bottom strip, perhaps in a contrasting wood. A builders trick, if you can't cure a problem, make a feature of it.
last resort Fablon!
