Our 501 was modified when we bought her for my mother in law who has had an aneurism and is as good as paralysed down one side.

The mods are a bathing platform on the transom, a gated pushpit, modified bridge deck and companion stairway.

Now in her later years her mobility is decreasing and I was thinking ahead about how to get her on board.

My father in law has a similar age and can't lift her easily but I've known people use a block and tackle off the boom on other boats.

The Trapper has a very seventies rig with a short boom which isn't ideal but I think it could work. Has anyone any experience or advice?

Do I need a seperate block or could I use an upgraded mainsheet block for a bigger boat to get the mechanical advantage? What do I need to do about the topping lift, just beef it up or change something altogether?
