Director's chairs or similar

Re: Director\'s chairs or similar

You're not suggesting that there is on this planet a boating-related item which is worth its price, are you?
'Course they could use 316 spec and still make a good profit, but since they claim a generic "stainless steel", I'm led to believe that they could aim to an excellent rather than just a good profit.
I understood the aesthetic point, my concern about surface rust on non-316 fittings was also in that direction.

Re: Director\'s chairs or similar

Staining depends on colour of course. But in general I think he is/you are right. Sunbrella can survive red wine, coca cola, ketchup, etc, but the red rain has tiny red particles that could mechanically lock into the fibres of a textile and stain it, and not dissolve or wash out. So imho it isn't good to leave sunbrella cushions exposed to full-on rain. I bring cushions inside when it rains but for cushions that i know will get much rain, eg my non-removable backrests on the flybridge dining table, and the sunpad in front of fly helm (which I can take inside but often dont bother cos they are big and they're closed-cell foam so can handle rain) I used a vinyl. Exactly as your guy recommends/as you propose. Few pics below. Fab berth in first pic eh? - right in front of African Queen!

Sunbrella would be fine where I have blue/white stripes in pic above, cos that's under a GRP roof so never gets hard rain

Re: Director\'s chairs or similar

OK, seems my plan is good. That's Bealieu, I guess. We only went in there once and it was absolutely lashing with rain

Re: Director\'s chairs or similar

Looks good. Did you manage to route out the corian counter tops and replace them? can't tell from the piccy.

Re: Director\'s chairs or similar

Nah, I've held fire on the Avonite/Corian job cos (a) fairline changed their mind and told me they are 13mm thick not 5mm which is still router-able but a bit more work, and (b) Fairline price for the 3 pieces is well north of £1000, gweep, so I might have to trawl around kitchen suppliers for offcuts but I dont have time. I'm thinking of gluing Formica on (!) or spraying awlgrip/epoxy paint

Re: Director\'s chairs or similar

Yup, Beaulieu. V nice place imho!

And yup, vinyl+sunbrella is a good plan. Here are a couple more pics showing cloth/vinyl in different areas

Re: Director\'s chairs or similar

Mark,

I have recently taken delivery of 2 of the Onward Trading Directors chairs type 3650.
They are brilliant quality and I cannot be more pleased with them.
Knowing your penchant for quality (getting posh now) I suggest you look at them when you collect your boat as they are based in Swanwick Southampton.

Re: Director\'s chairs or similar

Thanks all. Some good info here.

I have a sneaking suspicion Timage are making a huge markup here and are really just selling Marinerie kit - http://www.marinerie.com/en/marinerie.php3?display=prodotti&idcategoria=00000029

Looks familiar doesn't it. Also Timage link to Marinerie here.

jfm, about getting the seat fabric re-made in Charcoal sunbrella, do you know who would do this kind of work?

Re: Director\'s chairs or similar

Yep I agree, Timage looks like marinerie kit

Probly lots of places will do the sewing. www.mastertrim.co.uk in Cannock or mjmarine in Essex for starters. Sunseeker ought to have a firm in Poole they can refer you to, it's only a smallish job. They've gotta be completely remade though, if you want 25mm padding put into the backrest and seat base, obviously. But they do look the dogs doofers with padding instead of thin canvas

(It's a big mission all this boat speccing eh? You buy a £2mill squeeker and expect it all sorted, then you have to find a firm to remake some chairs which at £426 ought to have been right in the first place. If you run out of time the sewing folks in Antibes, Filao aka The Bandits, only 50m from the stern of your boat, will make them. Though will be €200 each or something...)

Re: Director\'s chairs or similar

Two good recommendations here so I've ordered 3 x Onward 3650 chairs with all upholstery in Charcoal Sunbrella /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

They'll be ready in 2 weeks too. Superb.

If anyone else is interested, including my chosen fabric, they work out at £273 +VAT each.
