Landers (Haslar Marina) is very good value for money in my opinion, good atmosphere, excellent food (not especially cheap but not expensive either) and I am sure that if you arrange ahead that they do a special menu for groups as well if that is an issue, but probably best to book ahead.

Can't remember what is is called but the pub just outside the entrance of the marina (Turn left out the gate) used to serv very good food. Not been there for a year or so though.

Or a trip across on the Gosport ferry will deposit you at Gunwharf where there are loads of eateries.

The words good food and Gosport do not really go together.
For a good night out for 10 I would get the Ferry over the Gunwharf Quays (or take one boat over to the Camber and moor alongside the pub) and take a trip to the Canteen.
Its the largest Chinese buffet you ever saw, the food is better than you would expect, they also have a chef who will cook while you watch if you like. Its really busy so you might want to book ahead.
Drink at the Castle in Gosport if you must or at much lower cost at Wetherspoons up the High Street

Re: Dining in Gosport - The Old Lodge, Gosport

James,

http://www.gosport.biz/

I recommend this place; its a five minute cab ride from central Gosport. Nioce building, nice grub, nice people. And not 2nd mortgage territory either.

The steaks are quite good at the Lightship in Haslar marina, but you must book especially if you want a level table and they have quite short opening hours for food. The food and atsmophere in Landers is good although the menu is not large and if you want plain food you choice is limited. The Castle sells quite good pub food and seems to be very popular.

You can always get a cab to Fareham.

If you're going to Fareham then "The Castle in the Air" is quite good, as is the Chinese on the high street. Otherwise the same choices as above.

We usually go to the Castle just outside Campers' gate, though the quality has varied over the years from really quite good to rather disappointing. Usually a nice pint of 6x to be had, though.
We found Landers the year before last and liked it a lot, but haven't been back, and I believe it's changed hands since then. More of a posh bistro to treat SWMBO, I think, than a cheap pub where you and your mates can get drunk and eat lots.

In your dreams James!

Pop up to Waitrose, get some provisions and get cooking. The paucity of replies shows the extent of the culinary desert that is Gossie. For 10 of you the only solution is GunWharf. Believe me after 20 odd years of Gosport I have learnt.
Book a table at Santa Fe in G Wharf and have a good evening. If not there a quick Google will give you other venues but BOOK.
Anyone who thinks the food in The Castle answers your description is barking.
best regards
Anthony

Your only options in Gosport are:

Chinese (Great China Wall I think) right by the Gosport Ferry is OK.
The Castle is the pub just outside the marina.
Landers at the entrance to Haslar
The Mary Mouse 2 at the other end of Haslar - they'll let you in at the gate via the intercom. Good service there and reasonably priced.

As everyone has told you, you really should take the ferry over to Gunwharf Quays. Plenty to choose from there - the Custom House pub may be a good bet or one of the places like Santa Fe.

As others have said, the Chinese Wall is pretty good if you want Chinese.

The Castle, just outside Gosport Marina, is liable to disappoint if you're going for food. I've had the toughest steak ever (pretty well inedible) and a meal that looked as if it had fallen on the floor and then been swept back on the plate. I won't eat there again.
