My girlfriend and I sail off the south coast but I want to go away with her so she get chance to sail a dinghies by herself and really get a feel for helming and an appreciation for trimming sailings alone. I'm never going to convince her to to that in the UK winter months so does anyone know of a base in the med at this time of year which has a well setup sailing school with plenty of things like lasers, cats etc?

Thanks.

How's your foreign? Most schools here in Italy will only teach in Italian.

I know there are places in Greece, particularly on Lefkas - Vasiliki Beach - where they ship their instructors in from english speaking places, but I think it's mostly windsurf they do there.

Give me a shout if you want to look in Italy!

For this time of year? Doubt any of the beach club schools are open in the Med. Caribbean, maybe, but Med?

If you can wait for better weather, I went to Minorca sailing a few years ago. Absolutely the best set up, but not cheap. Nowhere else has the range of equipment.

Anyway, Keen-Ed is right. These places shut down in the Winter. It's cold here too (just not as cold as it is there :-P)!

Pffft... you don't the meaning of cold haha. I go diving in Spain all winter and its lovely. Anyway you're probably right. Best leave it to May.

Minorca Sailing (www.minorcasailing.co.uk) is the absolute dog's danglies. I had a week there: spent most of my time on a Laser 4000 but also sailed a Vareo, RS200, RS500, RS700 (my favourite!) and RS800. They have a fleet of Lasers and a fleet of Picos, and various other things as well. I can't imagine how anyone could do it better, and the location is brilliant too.

No connection, except as a very happy customer.

PS They aren't open in the winter though.

Second the above - we were anchored in Fornells (just watching) for a few days and very impressed with the quality of seamanship the students achieved, and the attentiveness of the rescue boats.
Old and young were out in conditions that we were happy to be tucked away in, and were competently enjoying every minute, impressive.
