Do you know if there’s any restrictions on taking a <3m inflatable dinghy with 5hp outboard on holiday to France/spain? The dinghy could be packed down in the back of the car and outboard drained of fuel and stowed correctly to prevent oil leakage. But would customs or local agencies get awkward with me?

Worth asking the RYA if you are a member. They have lots of members with dinghies going back and forth across the Channel by ferry and tunnel to attend regattas, and are therefore currently trying to clarify this.

Things have changed due to our exit, so may need Carnet like used to when we first took our Mirror across 50 yeas or so ago.

Contact your ferry company.

I would have thought if you propose to travel by ferry or tunnel they would best source of info on any steps required re the outboard . I cannot think merely because you tender is entering by car makes any difference to our sailing to cherbough say with the tender on board?

Countless outboard motors cross the channel on ferries attached to RIBs on trailers - used by sailing coaches of all nations, as well as other leisure boaters. So doing any issues on ferries due to the motor (tunnel may be different, certainly we have always taken RIBs on ferry).
But the import and VAT rules have definitely changed since B times.

I cannot see arriving with any dinghy/OB in the boot of a car varies from arrival in the lazarette of a boat but maybe I’m missing a point here as I was last there in 2020.
