...fine looking, practical piece of kit...but why isn't there a Far Eastern knock-off, which doesn't cost £250?

I definitely don't want to squint at a speed-reading on my phone through its misty waterproof cover...

...anyway I'm often taking photos or video with the phone...and I'll want video of the speedo if I'm going fast.

Has anybody found a cheap, big-digit, low-cost water-resistant speedo with internal batteries?

Thanks Pete, it does look robust, and cheap.
But none of the pictures show the digits on the speed readout. How big are they?

I'll want to position it somewhere central so I can see it clearly from 4 or 5ft away.

The cheap Garmins do a screen where only or mostly the speed is shown. They do other things too that you may find useful.

have a google of bicycle and motorcycle gps speedos. Water resistant, designed for daylight display.

Thanks, that sounds good, but I'd really like a read-out in knots, which isn't likely in a model made specifically for the road.

I'm guessing you mean the figures are big. I hope so. I'll take a look. :encouragement:

Go for a Garmin GPS watch - don't need massive figures if it is on your wrist!

I have a Fenix3 and it's brilliant, but I needed one with 17hr battery life for when I'm racing Ironman triathlons. You will be able to get by with a lesser forerunner for basic speed / distance stuff.
