A few years ago we bought an Otter dinghy for the kids, 11ft long, gunter rig, room for 3 or 4, nice and easy to sail and takes an outboard. It's faster than a Mirrior, GRP, has built in bouyancy and proper centreboard arrangement. We paid about £250. Heron's or Gulls are good but GRP ones can be rare and expensive. If she fancies something a bit more exciting how about an old National 12? Paper Dart designs are GRP and well made, they last for ever but are no longer on the pace hence prices can be just a couple of hundred quid. A Lark is a good option, will be GRP but look out for abused x-college boats. GRP Enterprise is another but ugly, heavy and often overpriced, similarly GP14's. Have a look on the various class association web sites, they all have for sale sections. If you put a bit of effort in you will find a nice boat for 3 or 400.

why not try e-bay?? I know two people who have bought boats via this site..One is an American cat boat built by a chap in Scotland who makes violas for a living.. he tried to sell it for some 5 grand thenlet it go on e-bay for £1500 including an outboard and trailer. Another chum has just bought a wooden folkboat for £1800, including a newish Nanni diesel.

Dave,
I would agree about the Otter, Heron and Gull, but not the others. Having had the misfortune to have to instruct in Larks, I would not recommend them to anyone I cared for. They are great for their design brief - but very unforgiving, particularly in waves.
