Dinghy Floor Repair

Hi guys,

I have a seago 2.4m ranger slatted floot dinghy that has developed a few nicks in the floor.

These must have happened whilst being dragged a meter or two or whilst unravelling/packing away or even picking up and chucking off the side of the pontoon to launch or recover.

They are small so water is only very slowly seeping in.

What is the best method of covering them up? The fibres inside are still holding the holes in place so they are not growing if that makes sense.

Up till now I have always successfully used Polymarine 2-part adhesive and PVC patch material but recently I found I either had a bad batch of adhesive or the patch - or I hadn't cleaned properly first - so it didn't stick properly and peeled off.

Having emptied the pot of "proper" adhesive I stuck a patch on with some leftover grey Stixall gun adhesive from Screwfix. This stuck beautifully to the dinghy but again not to the patch, which more or less fell off. My suspicions about the batch of patch material have increased.

However the layer of set but still flexible Stixall has sealed the leak in a pressurised tube, so this is what I'll definitely use next time for weep leaks in a bottom section where there is little water pressure. I only had Stixall as I'd wanted CT1 for another non-boat job but no-one locally had any in stock - the two products seem roughly similar though CT1 may be more flexible when set.

Last year I the same problem. Some fittings (rowlocks and safety line attachments) peeled off so I stuck on with Polymarine 2 part adhesive then they came off again during last summer heat. Reattached again last winter with new tin of adhesive but more careful removal of old. Waiting to see what happens this summer.

I have had problems with getting a rowlock glued back on a hypalon dink. Two different two component glues specifically designated for hypalon were tried and both peeled off after a few weeks.

However an epoxy glue described as being flexible and suitable for hypalon did the trick.. Called Marine Tex Flex Set. Worked for me.
