Diluting Coolant

Since RichardS told me to go 50/50 most of what's been posted on here has gone straight over my head - I'm not sure I'll ever look at a glass of water the same way again. Anyway just to throw another question into the mix. I called one of my pals this morning and asked where's the best place to get distilled or de ionized water and he told me he collects his own from the air conditioning units in his house. He says he puts the drain hose from the a/c unit in a 5L bottle and it fills up in no time. Question - is there any reason not to use this water?

Exactly the same condensate water as mentioned in post #5 from tumble-dryers. It's the perfect, free alternative to buying distilled or de-ionised water. :)

There's not much call for tumble dryers in this part of Turkey so I didn't really pay much attention to that. Thanks again for all your help. I never knew water could be so complicated. I just love thinwater's forum name in the context of this thread.

Apart from the cost of it are there any advantages/disadvantages to diluting coolant? The water around here is very hard and sourcing distilled water will probably cost as much as the full strength coolant. Will full concentrate coolant provide better anti corrosion protection.?

coolant is also corrosion inhibitor so 50/50 is normally recommended

I have topped up batteries with the water produced by our dehumidifier at home. Although our water is so soft that it would not do much harm to use tap water and I know some locally who do.
