The quality of MP3 music isn't that great, and using the low bandwidth of Bluetooth compresses it further, transmitting it via the FM radio significantly degrades it. I have an iPod with a hard disk in it, it's called the Classic and lots sell on Amazon/eBay. Using iTunes you can select how compressed you want the music to be, I've chosen a fairly high quality setting and plug in the iPod through a dock connector in the car and a headphone cable to the audio input on the boat. Apple seems to make people very angry when their stuff breaks down.
