digital barograph, every yacht should have one

It's not going to give you the altitude. It's going to show the 'altitude' the plane is pressurised to. Hence his commenting that it's 'interesting'

Good morning Bob, who said anything about pressurised? No but seriously though it does show you the effective cabin altitude on a pressurised plane which I found to be about 8,000 feet.

As for the wind speed it has a little impeller built in so you just hold it up to the wind and watch the display.... obviously that bit is no use on a plane - they don't seem to like you opening the windows but perhaps if you were half way up a mountain or even, heaven forbid, sailing it could be handy. It also gives temperature and wind chill.

David

Re: Setting Barometers at Home

Go to the Met station in the airport and compare against the Precision Aneroid or Mercurial they have ...... that way no problem.

Otherwise you don't know corrections for altitude etc.

But anyway .... afew mB here and there are not important ---- its the TREND over time that is ....... and the rate of change ..

Re: Setting Barometers at Home

Does it really matter if the absolute level is right, surely its the trend that's important?

<hr width=100% size=1>.. when's that again, but ..

Well. anything under 1013.2 is a low, anything above is a high. Depending on how far out your absolute level was, you may mistake one for the other. The wind direction should tell you where the low pressure is (Buy Ballot's law) but I would like to know if it's arrived or not...
