Re: Of all DIY bodges....

Fully agree. Interesting is that the yards keep quiet. None tried to defend themselves, I wonder why...........

Re: Of all DIY bodges....

Dunno what a carburetter is for. But a carburettor could come in handy. On the other hand I'd rather go with my fuel injector. Why change a winning horse.....

Re: Wise up Reading

1. Local boatyard offering 'Qualified Marine Engineer' services - no formal qualification and vary partial to large hammers & acetylene torch - cost £45 per hour.
2. Boat retired from 'National' hire fleet complete with valid BSC & maintained by 'Qualified marine engineers' with C&G no less. More wrong sized wire, fuses and 'domestic practices' than you could image.
3. 'Fully Qualified' BS Inspector escapes death when bare starter lead touches steel fuel tank - still alive courtesy of diesel!!!

Done by individual = Bodge
Done by professional = Trick of the trade

Are we really having this discussion?

I am amazed that this discussion is taking place here! I am on the "Practical Boatowner Forum" aren't I? This belongs on the other forums, PBO is (or at least was) published for the DIYers afloat, if you don't DIY your on the wrong forum and reading the wrong magazine. Where else can you find help in building a radar out of used fairy liquid bottles, meccano, a micro wave oven and an old television, Blue Peter eat your heart out.
