I have a VP TMD22 engine , but trying to put together a spares list I run into some problems , for instance fuel and oil filters are different between the A and B version of the TMD22

does anyone know how I can identify which engine I have ? the label just says 'TMD22'

If you are buying your spares from a Volvo dealer or Keypart then just give them the details on the plate and they will tell you - and supply the correct spares.

I have a VP2030 and wanted to know if it is a -A, -B or -C. This also wasn't on the engine but I found it somewhere in the documentation, owners manual or something.

Boat is laid up in Sweden so I can't be more helpful.

Same as the non-Turbo MD22: If it has a belt driven seawater pump, it's a -B revision. If it is directly mounted on the camshaft instead, it's the -A revision. Probably they didn't know they were going to make a -B yet, so there is no revision on yours, indicating it's the original -A :)

The heat exchanger/exhaust manifold was also completely redesigned between the two revisions and is another strong hint (the -B looks more "square" and the -A more rounded). There should also be another type label on the heat exchanger side, although that fell off on mine.

Edit: The L and P versions have different compression ratios and maximum RPM, crankshaft power is 50 HP for the L (Perkins Prima M50) vs. 59 HP for the P (non-turbo, Perkins Prima M60). You can find the datasheets of each online. Each of these can have a -A and -B revision, with the differences in parts as described above, but unless you're replacing the injector pump there's probably little difference between the L and P but important ones between -A and -B revisions thereof. Hope I'm making sense :)

The MD22 and its derivatives, the fuel filter primary is usually the CAV296 type and the engine mounted one is the same throughout the range iirc, Ive just done a quick check on marinepartseurope and its the one ending in 740. The oil filters do differ with the thread size being the difference. The original one directly derived from the Maestro engine and the Perkins engine having a bigger thread. The turbo charged engines have a subtly different compression ratio and the timing marks take that in to account. The difference in power output is taken care of with the pump adjustments, not a different pump per se. The speed and pump settings give different power outputs, my 50hp version only revs to 3200 but the car one used to rev a lot higher and I think that the higher powered versions including the turbo ran at higher revs to achieve that.

silly me , volvo has a lookup function on their website !

engine build specification is - 868806
Serial number is 5100708042
Model is TMD22P-C

They were built between 1997 and 2006

You can find this at volvopenta.com "find your engine"
