The difference between navionics gold and platinum electronic charts, is the difference worth the extra £100, or would i be just as happy using the gold charts.

New to using electronic charts, the platinum mentions a coast pilot, is it a wealth of information or just an electonic add on to boost chart value, or is a reeds almanac more informative.

Trying to gather information to make an informative choice between the two types of chart, before i deplete the bank account.

I used to find a (copied) North Wales Coastal Pilot more than adequate. Then again I could float in six inches of water

Hi

I use Navionics Gold. Have seen the Platinum version and i personally dont think its worth the extra. Seems to me they are trying to make entering harbour monkey proof.

The pilot is sketchy but better than nowt the photographs are again of marginal interest. Everything you need is in Reeds or other pilots which by and large are of much more use. I doubt that you could justify paying the difference and IMHO not worth it buy a cople of decent pilots and still have change. I boughr one and won't bother again!
