Diesel - the 60 / 40 split

I thought that we had won a bit of a compromise with red diesel, but after filling up today I am not so sure. I just paid 99p /litre at Kip Marina and after CPR and then getting picked up off the floor I asked how come - what about the 60/40 split I declared on the pink sheet? They said that the duty on red diesel has increased specifically for pleasure boaters to a point where it is just as cheap to buy white diesel from a fourcourt, so the 60/40 split is just about pointless. So I guess then that all our campaigning was a waste of time and Gordon has stuffed us good and proper yet again? Is this correct? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
 
So did you buy red or white? If they are selling white only then go somewhere else. If you bought red then you have been conned as they will be pocketing the extra 'tax' that you have paid. As they charged you 99p I suspect it wasn't white as that is cheaper than a supermarket currently....
 
I think that Largs and Kip Marina keep their prices very similar to each others, I recently wrote a letter to MD of Yachthavens to ask why the fuel at Largs marina was consistently the dearest in the Clyde,I also asked if he could not introduce a similar deal to berth holders like MDL and Premier marinas do, basically he said that he would monitor fuel prices in the area in future to be more competitive,but would wait to see if any other marinas where going to introduce any discounts or incentives first for berth holders before they had to, I voted with my feet and moved the boat to another marina, after spending 4 years there,and I know quite a few others who are doing likewise.I have always found that the cheapest place for fuel in the clyde, is at the fish dock at Tarbert, although I mentioned this to the managers of other marinas in the area and have ended up getting a discount for my business.
 
Filled up in the Itchin at the weekend. the fuel berth there had prices clearly displayed. He had the 100% rebated price, which I think was around 57p, then listed splits 60/40, 70/30, 80/20, 90/10 and then 100/0 which was 99p from memory.

Good system that all fuel berths should be using.
 
Thats intersting as I saw the posted price and (wrongly) assumed that was the non 40/60 price. ie tax to add.


If so why are Premier 10p / lt more? I know they claim is the cost of supply to them (fuel, service etc) but 10p/ltr is a bit steep to cover their costs IMHO . MDL its invoice price from their supplier nothing added.......

The difference is that from MDL you have met your commitments re fuel duty. From the local garage you have not and would suffer the consequences if caught. I know it's a small possibility, but you never know.

For most, jerry cans from the garage are just not a practical solution.
