diesel sealant

help much needed here, i have a stainless fuel tank with parallel thread inserts welded in, into these threads are screwed 5/16 compression fittings to form my fuel lines. i have bought heldite as a sealant but the threads are to loose to make a good seal, what i would like to know is, can i use hemp with the heldite to form a durable seal.

Hi,
I now use Loctite 577 for all metal coarse thread sealing jobs and have had complete success, cleanliness is important but its quick and reliable, it is available on Ebay at economic prices.
