Its now some weeks since my diesel hoovering escapades and the trip to Limehouse and St Kats. You may remember that I arrived at Limehouse with thoroughly clogged filters and subsequently had to change them again soon after returning upriver to Chertsey.
I did actually break open one of the clogged filters and it really was clogged, I mean clogged !!!!
That was over a month ago and we've been out every weekend since with no further engine performance isssues other than a little smoke on port when on tickover. No recurrence of the engines racing 200-300 revs spasmodically either.
So.....the question arises as to how much is due to the filter changes and crud removal and how much has the sollybolly helped.

I am now running the tank down with a view to filling up at Windsor Marina with City Diesel to see if I notice any further improvements during our annual jaunt up to Oxford and back.

Well since no one knows wot all the crud and mess was. We will never know what got rid of it, would we. But its mended like I said it would. Your hoover must have got rid of alot of the rust and lumps. The Soltron has cleaned up the rest.

On numerous club trips into more unsettled water we encountered the dreaded Sh**y muck in the filter syndrome either our own filters or others. The stuff in the bottom of the tanks doesn’t get stirred up on the upper reaches and lies in wait for the unwary. From what you’ve described as remedial actions I’d be surprised if you have any more trouble.

As far as the sollybolly goes I’ve used it for a year now and recently changed all the filters in the system (fitted last year). All filters were split open with the resulting pair of diesel smelling jeans and a bollocking from the wife. Some small deposits of fine grit were found in the primary drop filters but no water and no slime. The secondary fine on engine filters were absolutely clean with no unusual visible discolouration of the filter element. We’ve been filling from Brighton fuel pontoon and St Sampson last year. Both locations load road fuel (I’ve seen the delivery manifest from the tankers). Whether I’ve been exceptionally lucky with my fuel or the solly is doing it’s stuff I don’t know. All I do know is I’m not filling without it.

By the way, did you know that Shepperton marina are going to stock the solly.
