Am in the middle of my engine (VP 2003) installation refurb programme, including changing the 20 year old flexible fuel lines. I currently have a CAV cartridge type filter as the primary filter, with glass howl water seperator. Usual secondary 'screw on' type filter mounted on the engine. This seems to have been fine over the years, so currently plan to just refit this.

However, I note there are much more elaborate primary filter units available - are these any better, worth considering replacing my existing unit with?

Personally, I don't think so. The CAV filters are cheap and available everywhere. Assuming you have good access to change the filter I would leave alone.
