Diesel prices - Orwell area

So did I. B&Q sell 20 litre Jerry cans or get them off the ,net. I bought 4 and transferred 80 litres at a time. Saving was very substantial.

But B&Q jerry cans are £20 or so each; you'd need to transfer a hell of a lot of fuel to make it cheaper than buying at marina prices!

It's not evading duty if you are filling up a static houseboat, or refuelling when the boat is ashore or refuelling in winter when you have no plans to use it for propulsion. You are also allowed to completely fill the tank with zero duty fuel whilst the boat is ashore.

It would be entirely up to you where you get your red diesel from and what rate of duty/tax you pay on it, however I doubt you will have been given a receipt stating that an applicable rate has been paid for propulsion and as such if you are (albeit somewhat unlikely) questioned as to the source of the fuel by HMRC you might not be able to supply the required documentation. But as I say...it's all down to you and self declaration. Colvic Watson is of course absolutely correct if your intention is for non propulsion use.

you are evading duty & this is a public forum
How are you evading duty? Morrison's fuel is fully taxed.

I've gone over to white, I only use about 40 ltr a year and can fill up at my local garage (in a can) and is cheaper than trying to find some red.

Morrisons in Ipswich (and some other garages) sell Red diesel as well as white which isn't taxed suitable for marine propulsion use.

???? Did you mean:-

Morrisons in Ipswich (and some other garages) sell Red diesel, as well as white which isn't taxed suitable for marine propulsion use.

or Morrisons in Ipswich (and some other garages) sell Red diesel which isn't taxed suitable for marine propulsion use, as well as white which is taxed.:encouragement:

Actually I meant;
Morrisons in Ipswich (and some other garages) sell Red diesel (as well as white), which isn't taxed suitable for marine propulsion use.

:P ;) (or the latter of your two options)

interesting stuff.... where are these rules/regulations promulgated?

Red used for domestic purposes is a reduced duty, red for propulsion is full rate duty with a reduced VAT concession of 5%. Payment of the correct duty according to your use is down to your honesty, apparently lacking in some users. Whether the boat is ashore or a house boat is incidental.

I have a separate 10l portable tank for the Wallis cooker, which when I've filled it separately from buying a load of diesel means I get it dead cheap. Can't remember how much as it lasts about 2 years...
