Diesel price.

Just got a quote from Rubis, St. Peter Port Guernsey, 35p/L for 2000L (not duty paid of course). In current weather patterns would prefer to fill up more locally (Solent) but struggling to find an acceptable price. This fill will last a long time so want non FAME. Anxious to get topped up because of the news today about Syria.

I am returning a hire boat to Benson near Wallingford on the Thames in a couple of weeks time
I am told that Benson's diesel prices are sky high! Does anyone know a cheeper place either up or down stream?
Many thanks

An old thread I know, Guernsey Marine Diesel is duty paid, it is just very low duty, and for reasons beyond comprehension they decided to dye it red????

Diesel from the Road Tanker at St Sampsons 39.95ppl now, it dropped to about 32ppl over the winter.

Better Boating in Caversham your best bet, know where else before Benson.

So in the UK are most of you running your boats on red diesel

Dennis

Red diesel is more or less the only commonly sold diesel on the coast of the UK. The commercial vessels get to use it free of tax, whereas the rest of us pay some tax. For the leisure craft consumers, that usually results in fuel that has more or less the same rate of duty as on the continent.

The reason for this arrangement was to avoid a situation where each marina had to offer two different colours of the same fuel, and thereby run two different tanks and pumps.

Is that correct? That would imply all leisure boats would fail any tank dipping both here and abroad?

Most near neighbouring countries understand the British system, but at the moment, only Belgium is trying to pinch British yachtsmen for running red diesel. As a consequence, most British yachtsmen are currently electing not to visit Belgium. Other european countries sometimes elect to dip the tanks of British boats and, upon being shown a receipt for the last fill-up that shows the tax paid, then leave it at that.

I was in Oostende 5 weeks ago as were a dozed British boats no issues

Where was that? I cant think of any waterside fill point that dispenses white. Might be useful for those about to head off to the continent.
