[/ QUOTE ] Its a little Honda Eu20i, weights about 21kgs empty and the big handle on top makes lifting it a doddle (certainly easier than our liferaft). Its portable so I hope to be able to move it around the deck depending on noise and wind direction. The only thing I am not sure of is does the genny need earthing. There was a thread a year ago by Richard Faulkner on the same subject but I can't find it at the moment. Will the idea of a small genny and an electric heater work? don't know, finding out tonight so if you here a late night "pan pan" its just us asking for extra blankets /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've just upgraded by own Mikuni 30 system by adding a third outlet to provide a more balanced input throughout the cabin. I was able to avoid some of the costs by manufacturing my own 80mm branch by using pringles tubes as a mould and laminating them in GRP. The cardboard tubes peeled away leaving a correctly sized and smooth duct. (Of course, I still had to pay out for the proper vent bits that are seen in the cabin).
As to reliablilty, I cannot speak highly enough of the system. It made last weekend's cruise a pleasure, with a warm, dry cabin to retreat to at the end of the day.

Cheaper to buy
Doesn't require annual servicing
Much better electronic control head (IMHO)
Works at more angles that the Eberspacer so doesn't cut out of boat healing to much and gives more mounting options.

We had dinner on board with Steve and Liz (Capt_pugwash) from this parish last night and despite a stiff wind blowing straight through the companionway the little heater and genny worked well keeping the boat warm. Directing the exhaust away kept the noise down to acceptable levels. Switched it off at midnight having got the boat warm and fired it back up for a few hours this morning (e decks were covered in frost). Did it work? yes and gives us heating and 240v on board despite the -4 last night.

Sounds like a good idea, but dont you find the noise of the little bu***** a bit off putting? How did it sound from down below?

I would get one but people running them on other boats always disturbs a quite anchorage, and I wouldnt want to be guilty of same!

[/ QUOTE ] noise of the genny below just wasn't a problem more of a very low background noise. Infact we were directly underneath it as it was located on the side deck.

[/ QUOTE ] Agreed, when I walked around the jetty this morning the noise from standing in front of the genny would be unacceptable if you were moored very close. However standing behind the exhaust was totally different, with it located on the side deck we were quite happy to sit and talk in the cockit. Think it would be a case of making sure the exhaust faced away from other yachts.
