Diesel heaters on eBay - Part II

There terms of sale are interesting -
"ALL GOODS ARE SHIPPED IN GOOD AND WORKING ORDER RETURNS ONLY ACCEPTED IF GOODS RETURNED IN GOOD CONDITION, UNDAMAGED AND UNUSED, 20% HANDLING FEE WILL APPLY"

You get it, turn it on and it doesn't work. Then what?

Then you cancel your order and receive a full refund, as per the Distance Selling Regulations :)
It's actually not legal for the owner to have that part on their website - they can't circumvent the DSR which insist a customer can cancel their order within 7 days of delivery for a full refund. If the seller then wants to take issue with the customers' definition of faulty then the seller has to make a claim against the buyer....seriously!

 From Company Check:

As opposed to Eber:

"The latest Annual Accounts submitted to Companies House for the year up to 31/12/2012 reported 'cash at bank' of £495,502, 'liabilities' worth £2,658,687, 'net worth' of £6,739,580 and 'assets' worth £7,860,151. Eberspacher (u.k.) Limited's risk score was amended on 05/03/2013"

As to a copy it rather depends where Webasto etc are manufactured.
I cannot comment on this but I can comment on electric anchor winches.
All the branded winches you can think of can be found in China and most of the firms producing these winches are prepared to sell them in bulk under plain cover to anyone who asks;or you can buy the winch body from one manufacturer;the gearbox from another and the motor from yet another.
If you are prepared to buy in bulk £400 buys you what retails branded here for well over £1000!
There certainly are companies in China which under their own brand are selling what appear to be airtop and thermotop type heaters(and probably are).
Perhaps the word to use is "clone" rather than copy.

No need, the majors are well aware of this and other infringements.

So how come they haven't shut him down???

He has a lot of good feedback on eBay .......???

Further digging shows he is a motor trader who operates from a domestic address...... No offence intended to any used car salesmen/women on here!!!!

You might be right about 'clone' verses copy. Regardless, if you strip out all the overheads an established company like Eber has, including design and development, and just buy from the source factory and sell on ebay from your home, it should be cheap!

Webasto and Eberspacher are both manufactured in Germany so no Chinese components are used. I regularly get emails from various Chinese companies offering heaters and few are able to give a CE approval number when asked, others are worse, giving bogus approval numbers that don't check out. There is a good respectable source of Chinese heaters in UK with proper warranty and parts service back up but the attendant investment means they are not significantly cheaper.
