Hi everyone,
After a load of help from members of the Thames forum I'm safely back at the marina (long story)

It looks like I potentially need to get the fuel system bled but I am utterly clueless about engines.

Can anyone suggest someone in the Reading area who I can try? I'm moored at T&K.

Cheers
Simon

Boat is a BALT750 with an AFN diesel engine. HAd lots of feedback durin the day on the Thames forum which seems to indicate fuel feed problems.

If Col is available, I'll second. He does/has done engine stuff for many people on the forums. Engine genius is one phrase I've heard about him, and he and his wife are lovely people, and he'll let you watch how he fixes, and explain the process too, so you'll learn from him. , He doesn't post on here much these days.

Sorry to hear about your problems on Saturday.

Not that I can help much but you say your Balt is fitted with the AFN (Volkswagen) engine. I seem to recall a similar boat on the river had the same issues a few years back but this one had the 200hp FNM (Fiat) diesel engine.

My mistake... FNM.... Looks like I've inherited something :-)

Any recollection what it was?

Been running perfectly for the past year since I bought her

When did you buy the Balt?

This time last year.... Been a real beauty till now... Hopefully it will be easily rectified.

I came close to buying a Balt 750 back in 2006, maybe 2007, at Val Wyatt. For some reason, my gut feeling was to walk away from the sale. As it happens, the boat in question, although advertised at the time as achieving a top speed in the low 20's, eventually got sold but only after Val Wyatt re-advertised it as having some serious engine problems and it would only achieve 13 knots.

It would appear that this particular boat came back on the market in mid 2011 http://boatcrm.valwyattmarine.co.uk/pdf/Balt_2003_VWM1-871.pdf , so it may be yours that I looked at all those years ago.

It seems strange that no one at the time could get to the bottom of why the engine wouldn't achieve it's WOT figures. I'm just wondering, if this is your boat, did you ever work out why it's performance was down, did you just accept it's 13 knot potential or, more worryingly, has the problem reared it's ugly head again but in a more sinister manner?

Here's hoping you get it sorted soon ;).

Small world! Yup.... Same boat.

I just bought her on the basis that the current top speed is stil above the limit on the Thames where I intend to use her. The issue seems to be related to the turbo from tests which were carried out/ documented by the guy I bought from: but not an issue for me.

Hopefully we will get there....
