I have completely emptied the tank on Harmony - the fuel looked clean and my neighbouring boat owner took the five gallos and put it in his own boat

there are a few tiny flecks of black in the bottom of the tank

it has been suggested that I add some of this stuff

http://www.marine16.co.uk/acatalog/Fuel_Treatment_Products.html#a60

to the mix

marine 16 diesel fuel complete

does anyone have any info on this stuff

I believe it came out top in the mag test last year and has repeatedly good reports on here.

Why did you not keep the fuel it to reuse ?

Isn't the diesel fuel complete designed to combat the effects of using white road diesel and not just kill diesel bug?

I've been using it since cleaning our tank about 3 years ago and refilling with white diesel and not had any further problems.

I was told that it will dissolve the little black bits so that they get burned with the fuel...

is that horse ****.... or true

Well I used it in January when I had the damned diesel bug & it is brilliant. Had a completely bunged up filter & engine stalled under load. One treatment (works out 1ml per litre of fuel) changed the filters, bled the system - Bob is my uncle, Fanny is my aunt. Kept the treated fuel and she is running beautifully on it.

The Diesel bug treatment kills off the bug which falls to the bottom of the tank. Diesel fuel complete will cause the dead bug to go into like a soot which can be burnt off by the engine. Been using marine 16 for a few years now and have had no farther problems. Small traces of this soot can be found in the filters when they are changed during servicing but does not cause any harm. Pump out or drain the fuel tank if possible after the diesel bug treatment although perhaps not neccessary. The diesel can be reused. Very small ammounts of the marine 16 can be used after the initial dose and my initial purchase of 500ml bottles has lasted for years. Other fuel treatments had been tried out previously but did not deal with the dead bug lying at the bottom of the tank which continued to give problems and block pipes and filters.

Why don't you just buy the Grotmar or the Marine 16 Diesel Bug Treatment? It is recommended for marine engines = boat blows up, you have a come back. You put other stuff in and it goes horribly wrong, you will be the man we point at whilst shaking our heads…. :) I can't understand all the drama - the size bottle you need of Marine 16 for a 10 gallon tank is about £8… That is to clean & maintenance after… 100ml bottle from Marine Superstore at Chichester Marina.

Also, when you change your primary filter - don't use the Unipart one - get one from the chandlers My Unipart filter was £3.50 and faulty and my Force 4 was £3.55 and was fine. They are the same size, but different design on the top. You are going to change the filters, aren't you?

I just found the article from the mags and it turns out "Fuel set" was the winner. PBO May 2011 was the month - it scanned to 15MB so I decided not to just email it to you Dylan :)

I use fuel set. I still see some bug in the filter each year. I guess they are all much of a muchness.
You can only tell if these products don't work, rather like rope cutters:rolleyes:

Dylan,
I have 3 of the spin-on diesel filters for a VP2002 (2 genuine VP, 1 Crossland I think) which you are welcome to for the price of postage.
I think there is a brand new impellor still in its package too plus some impellor gaskets and possibly a V belt up in the loft.
Plus some VP stern seal grease.

PM me to arrange this if you want them.
Steve

Good luck with that :-)

Well, you might get a refund at least ;) but I am always a bit wary of bunging in 'similar' stuff, unless I know exactly what the active ingredient is…..

I think Dylan is just trying to compete with the Eliza thread now - or he has too much time to think on those long, lonely drives to & from t'Island..
