Ok so iam a bit nieve got to order service bits for our engineer we have twin perkins 225 are the fuel filters perkins or could they be anouther make thanks for any help and how many spares should you keep on board.

Probably engine fuel filter will be Perkins plus you will have a primary filter and that could be anything , trace fuel supply back from engine, when you get to a filter it may be a canister type that may or may not have clear bowl underneath which you will be able to read off what it is and buy replacement, or it may be screw top paper filter replacement - racor type again should have something written on housing - or just take some photos and post them here and folks will try and identify.

Would just add, blocked filters stop engines, you should carry spare filters and know how to replace them (something that can be needed to be done at sea).

No, the filters do not have to be 'Perkins'
Who is your service engineer M8?
pm me on that
You cannot have too many filters on board
Be they fuel or oil or air or alkiholic ones
Talkin about oil
Is the oil in yer steeerin system sorted?

Perkins sabre225 MIT will have cross land 522, very cheap!! Not sure on prefilter.

If your not are what you have I deduce you don't have spares on board, if you go to sea you really should have spare sets as a matter of safety.

Usually the engineering company know what to supply if there competent of doing the job as they should know the engine well enough to do the job.

LIKE WHAT

Not sure that your response to Omega2 who knows his stuff comment is not at all helpful here..............

However if the numpty you are using to service the engine does not know your engine uses old style CAV last chance filters I would be concerned, very concerned.

Although badged Perkins filters are dual Delphi (CAV) HDF 296 or equivalent. Expect to pay around £2.50 a cartridge, buy a box of 10 so you have spares.

FAR more relevant is model and type of your primary filter and nobody here can guess that one.

OOps just seen post from VP he concurs with me but in a more polite manner...
