For my new diesel heater installation I need to mount the exhaust silencer (going on the transom).

Thinking a small wood block expoxied to the fibreflass, and an aluminum hanger bracket screwed to that. Worried about the heat damaging the fibreglass though.

The wood block stands creates a stand off from the hull - what would be a reasonable distance to stand off?

Is it best to do some sort of heat shielding behind the silencer?

Many thanks.

If you use the correct design of heater exhaust skin fitting, like this one, skin fitting exhaust 24mm 90 degree for webasto heaters stainless eberspacher | eBay UK you will not have a problem fitting it directly, other than sealant, to the grp. For the silencer, as long as there is a 50mm long strip of ss or aluminium before the grp the temperature will not affect the grp
