I assume its the transit engine built before 2001 in which case it wont have glow plugs, they don't need them. These engines are usually bombproof. I too would go with the stop solenoid on the pump, but do check its electrical feed or take the solenoid out, remove the spring and plunger and refit it. Only thing is she wont stop. Or loosen the injector pipes at the injectors (just be careful they can snap if they are very tight, you can support the injector at its base with another spanner) and check for fuel delivery.
