Diesel engine question - Fleetguard mixed with anti freeze?

We have a Thornycroft engine and good old Latestarter recommends using Fleetguard DCA 4 water treatment to prevent corrosion. The marina when they cleaned the fresh water side put in blue antifreeze so if I add Fleetguard DCA 4 will it mix with the ani freeze OK and does Fleetguard DCA 4 have any anti freeze qualities?

Fleetguard recommned ethylene glycol as the anti-freeze.

I think you need to check with the marina; they may have used Glycerol, or Propylene Glycol. Find out, then check if Fleetguard have any views.

I really dont see that if a normal antifreeze is used at the max concentration of 50% and is changed at the appropriate frequency there is any need to use any supplemental additives. But if the engine manufacturer recommends it ..... !

Leyland 98 Series redesign of the old BMC engine had one common feature, wet liners. From the BMC engines launch in the the 1950's corrosion and pitting of the liners where they sit on the counterbore was always a problem.

Late in the life of the '98' engine guys at Leyland Service 'discovered' DCA water treatment which was being used to combat liner pitting on other makes of engine with wet liners.

DCA 4 became an accepted 'fix' for a major issue affecting the reputation of what was a very good engine design.

Makes me feel ancient when I think that I was helping to install new Newage BMC 5.7 engines.

SCA's will address liner cavitation where normal antifreeze additives will not, just confined to wet liner engines.

Thanks Latestarter. Should I drain the fresh water side before adding DCA4 or is it OK to mix them? Does DCA4 have any antifreeze properties? If not, what type would you recommend as a perfect mix?

No it does not. It must be used with a 50% antifreeze solution.
