Good morning all -

I have the glorious task today of cleaning my fuel tanks, Does anybody know where I can get rid of 80lts of contaminated diesel, I asked the marina but they had no idea.

thanks

I left some in a container under my boat in a locked shed in a certain boatyard on Hayling Island and next day it was gone, and the container with it.

Your marina had no idea??????????

They are supposed to comply with international rules for waste (garbage management which includes receiving and disposal of waste oils from vessels.!!!!!!!

MArinas and ports(harbours) have a responsibility to provide for the receiving of garbage from visiting yachts which of course arrive with waste bags full as they are not allowed to throw waste overboard. There should be disposal facilities for galley waste.plastics, oil soaked waste(oil filters) and waste oil. ie sump oil and fuel oil.

Do they not have a set of different waste bins for all the different types of waste......Better tell them to speak to their association as they might also not have oil spill dispersal equipment....Now which marina in Hythe was this.....LoL,

Our marina is renowned for its lack of facilities however even they have complied with this government instruction which is actually an international agreement..

Let it settle in some cans, then filter it and it will be perfectly usable, assuming its not heavily dosed with some additive to make it absrb water, in which case I wouldn't be sure!
You should be able to save 90% of it.

Washed out my diesel tanks at home on the grass in the back garden,
Now Im in the dog house as we have a nice burnt bald patch in the middle of the garden!
Just remember that if you ever suck a tube to syphon diesel!

Here municipal council waste recycling depots (tips) have a recycling area for batteries, metals, and engine transmission oil only. If you call it transmission oil, it'll be allowed; if you call it 'fuel' it wont be allowed.

'Fuel' can be disposed of in occasional municipal recycling days when all the toxic stuff (half-used paints, herbicides, etc) are collected for treatment by the council/ state government.
