I have decided that I really would like to do a diesel maintenance course - does anyone have any reccomendations? Let me qualify this however: I have two 200 hp diesels (Nannis not Volsplutters) and so would like something that's quite relevant to them, not one that teaches me all about 2 pot 18hp yotty things. I live in Croydon and boat is in Brighton so that general area preferred.

Me to have been thinking about this.
Would like to do "the course" on our own boat.
Have you thought about asking a local marine engineer?
I know they charge a fair bit per hour, but if there's two of you shouldn't be to bad.

Wish they operated in the the Bristol/Cardiff area, I for one would sign up.
Bit like AA I guess?
Peace of mind and would save the local life boats a few "broken down" call outs.

Iam in Brighton as well, the local company has stopped doing the course, but if as suggested, you get enough owners, together they may do a one off, It may be worth a Email on the new BMBHA web site
Sea Start run there course from the Hamble area

Suspect that most schools will have yachtie engines for demonstration; if you want to learn about mobo engines the suggestion of using your engineer may work, watch him do the service and add an hour or two? There is not much an amateur can do beyond that in a breakdown situation.

Thanks guys, I'll try some of those things - probably begin with seastart. I know that there's a limit to what I can do, and I have indeed watched some of the servicing on my boat, but I thought it might be handy to at least have an understanding of the wider processes involved if only to help with trouble shooting and the like.
