hi all i have recurring diesel bug that wont go away i've tried soltron but it seems to keep coming back. In the back of motor boats monthly is an advert for dieselcraft and it claims to cure it by passing the fuel thro a centrifuge and then thro some sort of magnetic field, if any one has used this system or knows about it and wether it works please let me know. thanks peter.

Have you tried using the soltron to get rid of it and then using a preventative additive such as Stanadyne's performance formula to stop it reacurring?

filtration system

hi

we have lots of experience with these problems and have been successfully curing it for some time now.

we have a fully equipped van for diesel polishing and bug removal.
using the magnetic conditioner. the fuel is firstly passed through a 1 micron bag filter then on to four 0.3 micron superduty filterpots then through the conditioner. the tank is then cleaned and the filtered fuel returned to the tank with a small dose of biocide just as a precaution.

we have also recently supplied our local marina with a polishing filter to make sure that the fuel they are suppying is also bug free.

sorry rambled a bit there! the answer is yes the magnetic conditioners do work.

cheers

I know of one way of guaranteeing a cure for diesel bug.

I had it with a boat 20 years ago, before any of these modern 'cures' were developed, so I replaced the whole fuel system - from the tank through to the engines. No problems after that other than the bill.

I see you're a new user so hi and welcome.

There was an interesting thread on this subject recently and the link is:

I've used Soltron for many years but last week during filter change I noticed gunge at the bottom of one of my filters. I think these products can be a bit like antibiotics and your system can build up an immunity so I'm going to change to one of the products in the test report.

Yes I was advised that you should change the preventative dosage as it can become void after a time of continual use.

Having just gone down the route of diesel bug and having the fuel polished etc. By the way I did not appreciate that after filtering and polishing the fuel it is discarded from use.

The fuel generally does not need discarding if a sufficient quantity. A small quantity it is probably cheaper to discard than to treat say a yacht tank with 50 litres but if you have say 400 litres plus you filter it and use it.

I am not a fan of Soltron I dont want water disolved or otherwise anywhere near my fuel pump and injectors. Get a good biocide such as Grotamar 71 mix it in shock dose quantity with a gallon of diesel and add to tank leave for four days or more.

If you have a sump or stripping line take out any water you can, mild contamination will be taken out by inline filters major contamination will need remote filtering and If you can remove fuel to clean drums or another tank open tank lids if you have them and clean the inside of your tank then refill with cleaned fuel. The secret is to get rid of any water in the tank all the time and to use a good biocide at all times in normal low doses. Keep spare filters on board in case of blockage at sea.

yes it does work!

but not as an inline unit to the engine it is required to be fitted with a circulation pump that will circulate the fuel in your tanks from time to time.

and will not remove the sludge left by the bug this will need to be dealt with by a tank clean or just filter replacements over a long period of time.

Yes - 1 can per about 2,000 ltrs - but why not? Its a biocide (I think) Perhaps Dettol could do the same as it says it kills 99% ,,,, ?

But seriously, Yes I did use it and it certainly worked.

I had somewher near 15 - 20,000 litres which had been condemned by a fuel testing copany

No magic bullets........

http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252693

Remember if you add biocide to tank which is other than pressed up, infectious slime is still active on sides of tank above the level of the treated fuel. Biocide is contact killer, however next time you top up you re-infect. Re apply the same biocide and you likely have developed a resistant strain, as it may have mutated. You will require different biocide.

Magic magnets in isolation are as I said in the beginning ane no magic bullet, however expensive!

The idea of Mobo's is, there suppesed to move. Quite a long way as they have big tanks. Cars and trucks dont suffer, because there always moving and refueled every other day or week..

Adding Soltron will help. As with any other treatment. But will only help if you move.

Do a few trips to France and back. If you get the problem, it will be sorted in a few days.

Not going any where is the big problem.

There are one or two big companies dealing with this....Have a look at this and then using keywords play with Google to find reports.

Do you have creamy bugs or black slime.

If you explore this site you will see that as another poster has pointed out the magnets just form part of a system.

Many folk in other parts of the world say yes this works!!!! The choice is yours:)
