I know it's been posted before, but in the absence of a decent "search" facility I must ask the question again.

Which is favourite for berthing, cafes, restaurants, fuel etc.?

Info on access/tides/the Alderney Race is not a problem. I have a wealth of pilot books and almanacs for that, but you can't beat personal thoughts on a place by those who have been there.

A second for Carteret
However we havent been into Dielette.
We were going to go from Carteret to Dielette but local advice was that it wouldnt be as comfortable and the weather was picking up a bit so we stayed a little longer at Carteret.
Lots of restaurants.
Take care at the cill - the entrance is at 45 degrees to the line of the channel and it looks a bit strange - so swing wide to the right and then left to line up for it.
Make sure that you have plenty of water - this is a drying harbour - and I mean drying.

Here are some photos - a picture always speaks a thousand words.

And then when dry

But dont be put off - its really nice - just get the time right - not difficult.

You will also need a local chart - the admiralty ones dont seem to cover these small harbours.

If you are going to do only one do Carteret.

Carteret Good quiet marina no swell, good facilitiies good restaurants and countryside excellent sandy beaches. Watch out for the depth in the channel outside the marina , when the gate is due to open there is very little water like 1.5m in places. Love the place. No outer holding pontoon.

Dielette a more basic marina , you feel the swell, a very small town, reasonable beach basics nearby, a walk to Flammanville or a txi with Serge to Les Pieux.

Dielette has an outer holding pontoon.

If you are doing 4 to 7 days with kids do Carteret.

I see what you mean about "drying". I think there was more water at the bottom of our lane when Thames Water's main burst a few weeks ago than in your second picture.

Ok. Been to Dielette, umm once, maybe twice, I think it is easier to get into, as from memory you can get into the harbour anytime. Then just stop on the pontoon before going into the marina. There was a half decent bar/restraunt on the way off the marina, other than that, not alot. About half a mile up the hill, there is a desent town, with most things you would require I would think. Fuel was available in the harbour.

It's ok'ish but I would not rave about it. Portrioux?? up the canal a bit further down, is much nicer. Triggiour?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Then up the river. Mind Triggiour is not bad when the circus comes to town.

I see why you took the pics. I didn't really see what you meant by description, but the illustrated word says all.

With the tidal ranges down there, I bet it flows pretty strong too.

We keep our boat at st catherines, jersey, so get over to carteret all the time. dielette doesnt really have a lot there, carteret has a few restaurants and barneville (about 20mins walk away) is a reasonable sized town. well worth the visit, watch out for numerous lobster markers - they are generally well marked but often have floating rope so stay well away.
Springs is roughly hw+/- 2.5, neaps is closer to +/-2.

I have been to Diliette, a few years ago and whilst the marina is well protected it is a bit barren.
Believe the marina cafe is quite good although we ventured off to one in the middle of nowhere and had a very indifferent meal.
We are going to Carteret at the end of this month. Taking 2 classic cars on the Poole/ Cherbourg ferry, staying in a very nice hotel (I hope) overlooking the harbour. We may venture in to the Michelin starred restaurant (forget the name) one night.
Cost of the 4 nights should be well below the fuel alone from Southampton.
