Well I did think twice about putting that from what I have read about you on the forum /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

As for the crabs in the bilge, well thats maybe a case to take to your GP. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

You really know you've got a problem when you speak to your GP about a lobster problem /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

This is almost time for repeating the question I posted years ago about how to get a jelly fish out from under the engine when you couldn't get a hand underneath.

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Mirelle who used to post on these forums said he kept a crab in the bilge for just this purpose. It came on board when he shipped a sea in the Wallet one day.

You were supposed to ask how a jelly fish got under the engine.

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

I was motoring out of the Quarters one day and the engine overheat alarm went off. I anchored up and took the top of the seacock strainer. As I did so the jellyfish climbed out and and scampered under the engine. For all I know its still there as I don't keep a crab on board. Honest.

Then a man was walking past a fishmongers and saw in the window a crab with only one front leg but both pinchers. He went in and asked why the crab only had one leg. The fishmonger said, well I was on board my boat the other day and I got a jelly fish under the engine. I took the crab out of its box and sent it down and before the jellyfish could smell out the boat, he eat him up. Oh said the fellow and left.

The next day, he was walking past the fishmongers and saw the same crab in the window but now it's only got one leg and one claw. He went in and asked the fishmonger why it only had one front leg and one claw. Why said the fishmonger. After I finished last night, I went for a sail it was a bit rough and the boat fell off a couple of waves and loosened some seams. I got the crab out of the box and it went into the bilge and caulked up the seams from inside. Oh said the fellow and left.

The next day, he was walking apst the fishmonger's again and this time the crab has only got one front leg. He went in and asked why the crab only had the one leg. The Fishmonger said, Well, last night after I finished, I went for a sail. As I was motoring out of the Quarters, the stern gland started leaking badly, the yacht was sinking. But I took the crab out of its box and it went down into the bilge and along to the stern gland and it repacked it, stopped the leak and saved the boat and me.

Yes, yes, said the Fellow but you never tell me why its loosing it legs and claws,

"Well", said the Fishmonger.

"A crab that good you don't want to eat all at once". /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

I take our paddle wheel out when we leave her on the mooring and don't bother putting it in unless we're going for a proper sail. Just around the river I rely on GPS speed.

If I leave it in it ends up like yours - same end result - no log speed!

BTW - bought the book - haven't used it yet but it's a good read as well as utilitarian.

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

I wouldn't mind but even if its clean, it doesn't work. How can two identical paddle wheel's have one that works erratically and one that doesn't work. Both have magnets and seem equally as strong. That's why I just left it.

Thanks for buying the book and the comments.

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Mine looked the same on Sat so I cleaned it, twiddled it round to check it was working (it was) and put it back - and it didn't work again!

Streamed Wasp log instead. Thinking I may glass up the hole and rely on the towed log unless I can find a reasonably priced thru hull type. Don't like holes in the hull at best of times.

Just have to remember to pull it in again and have a few spare spinners for when I forget! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Our log bungs up like that in just one week! A real pain!

I try to remember to remove the log on a Sunday night, and replace it on a friday before we go out! if i don't it looks just like the pic in a week!
