Ooops

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Sorry but lost? Possibly hit bottom? Is it your depth sound or paddle wheel ?

I seem to recall you were going sand bank hoping today in another post.

Ahh so it is your paddle wheel.

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

It's my paddle wheel for the log. Can't hit bottom in the position its in, that's just a few weeks growth. Doesn't work anyway! Don't know why I got the thing.

Yes done the trip. Simple answer is there is no channel at the Ray Sand anymore - in fact where you would expect a dip there was a lump. I need to reduce the soundings to some sort of datum as quickly as I can and post about it.

So that's what one of them is supposed to look like /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Mine doesn't look like that. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Possibly as much growth, but as have not sailed it in 4 weeks no idea if it will be running when next out or not. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Haven't even got one on Sixpence, and if it's compulsory that they have weed like that on them I'm not sure I'll bother /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Muat be Mersea -mine was like that after 5 weeks....and on the subject -does any anti foul work round here? Or is that boring?

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Well Seajet Shogun is on the bottom of TG and it worked best of anything I have tried until mid season. But its pretty weedy now.

That paddlewheel wasn't anti-fouled because its the old one from the transducer that packed up - that's the other bit with the electrickery in it. But the new paddlewheel with the new transducer which I had anti-fouled doesn't work at all so I don't put that in the water. I suppose that not much of a test of an anti-fouling!! This one works at a sort of half the speed you are going (even when clean) and not at all when like that !!!! Guess the make!

Why does one paddle wheel work at half speed and the other not at all. Both spin, both have a pair of working magnets.

Ours is tempremental. One day it will one it won't. On the day it does, it might only work half the time. And although adjusted to max reads about .5 to 1 knot out.

Suppose will have to take gps SOG and reduce by about a 1/3 to get a rough through water.

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Whatever the fault, the instrument head won't let me switch to SoG. The whole thing's a dog's breakfast. Well known make, cost £500, has rarely worked more than half the time.

Suppose it save also having another hole in the bottom of the boat. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don't want any more of those than I have already /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Was thinking about a transom mount one but I've heard they're not very reliable ?

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Being a wooden vessel, wouldn't it be nice to go back to the old hay days and use a bit of rope with knots tied in it and a piece of log on the end. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Knowing my luck I would end up with a collection of crab and lobster pots on the end of the line, and still have no idea how slow I was going /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Good thinking batman, love fresh lobster and Cromer crab is to die for /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Might need a large keep net though /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

I would purchase an additional couple of yards of netting that I would be putting between my guardwire and toerail to stop me falling off and hang that of the back. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Could always waterproof the aft locker, fill that with sea water and keep em in there, do you think my bum might go down a little too much ? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Didn\'t have much of a chance really!

Nah, I think what you need is a through flow pump and have a holding tank in forepeak as well as the aft locker, pump the water through to the aft locker and then out the back. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Should keep you well balanced.!!!
