Popped in for an overnight with number one son and all going well, go into lock and stop to starboard. Son on front of boat ties off and I leave helm to secure but didn't get to it in time and start to drift away from the pontoon ultimately ending up side on in the lock! Not done anything like that for a long time.

Of course the lock was busy and by the time everything sorted I noticed the crowds around the lock.

Oh well, just when you think you have it licked.:o

A couple of weeks back at port solent lock some guy came into the lock side ways, didn't recover it then mounted his anchor onto the wooden sides which line the platform. He then decided to reverse taking out a chunk of wood...he really struggled

It's a common occurrence at port solent - we all have our off days

Don't worry, Ricky, you're not alone, as we did exactly the same as you leaving PS on Thursday morning, but the worst was there was no other boat in the lock and we still managed to c..k it up!! Still, at least we didn't have any spectators, except the lock crew, one of who very kindly took our stern line and hauled us alongside! My wife now hates locks!!

My wife hates locks too, although as they tend to be sheltered and no current when entering I actually prefer them to my home mooring which has a completely un-predictable tide and usually wind astern- Always and opportunity to get that one wrong

Like Elessar said, if we are likely the C***-ups still happen, hopefully less often!

if theres one place it goes wrong for us its the lock esp on way out

swmbo has also developed a dislike for locks

But I am learning and just now go to the side the boat wants to go.

Of course if its a busy day then I just wait politely letting others go ahead till its nearly full and go down the middle
