Did I hear that right?

Whilst out sailing on Saturday 30th Sept I overheard part of a transmission that went along the lines of "please be advised we may have a whale carcass on our bulbous bow".

Did anyone else hear this or did I drift off into dream land that much?

"Please be advised we may have a whale carcass on our bulbous bow".

That would be a good one for a phrase book. Better than "My hovercraft is full of eels." or "My postillion has been struck by lightning."

There is an article in this weeks Sheerness Times Guardian about a Whale recovered to Sheerness Harbour after being impaled on a bulbous bow. It popped up on Facebook earlier, but other than a photo of the front page I can't find a link to the story.

That would make sense as I was monitoring 74 and 16!

There was a whale washed up in the beach in Suffolk recently which was said to have been dead for some while. The conclusion was that it had been t boned by a large container ship at speed in the ocean and suspended across the bow bulb. It had only come off when the ship slowed in its approach to Felixstowe

A quick google search shows that it's not an uncommon thing to happen unfortunately
