"There we were in survival conditions in Biscay, I was crawling up the deck in 70kt winds when I saw a small speed boat type affair bobbing around about half a mile to starboard. I brought the boat about and made my way over to this chap sat there eating his sandwiches: Are you ok I hailed over", "I'm fine he shouted back, just come out for a spot of lunch since the weather is so nice". Robin went on to say how surprised he was by the amount of dust that was covering the small boat, even the hurricane force winds were unable to blow it off.

He went on to say, "I asked him if he would like me to inform his family that he was safe", "no need, I will be heading back soon, I will almost certainly beat you back". "Well I would rather that I could report that you were safe" I shouted back.

"I struggled to hear his name" said Mr. Knox-J, but wanted the family of Barry Sprain to know that he is safe and enjoying the calm weather.

Quite an interesting report I thought.

I suspect a bit of journalistic licence.
I've never been in anything like those conditions, but even in a "yachtsman's gale" it can be difficult to hear someone sitting next to you.
Having a nice chat to someone on another boat in 70 knots of wind is hard to believe.

Whilst out fishing in the English channel, i got caught out in
nasty gale of wind, seas soon built to huge size, i was trying
to get back to port, and getting a very rough ride and i was
anxious. Suddenly in between the huge troughs i spotted a
tiny boat, i altered course and went to him, when i got close
it was an IP 24 anchored and a guy in it fishing. I hailed him
"Are you OK?" Yes he said course i am why???
I carried on astonished. Often wondered if he got back OK!
